EMBEDDED QUESTIONS - 9º ANO

Vamos a alguns exemplos:

Do you know…….. ?

Can you tell me ……… ?

Do you have any idea ….. ..?

Viram?

Do you know WHO SHE IS ? ( Você sabe quem é ela ? )

Can you tell me WHAT TIME IT IS? ( Você pode me dizer que horas são ? )

Do you have any idea WHY HE DIDN’T CALL LAST NIGHT?

Can you tell us HOW OLD YOU ARE? )

Did she ask WHERE MARIO LIVES? ( Ela perguntou onde o Mario mora ? )

Would you like to know HOW MUCH money I have? ( Você gostaria de saber quanto dinheiro eu tenho ? )

Can you tell me HOW OLD  you are? ( Você pode me dizer quantos anos você tem? )

Principalmente , os alunos  iniciantes, têm em mente que havendo pronome interrogativo ( ex.: How, where, Why, When….

I need to know WHERE he works  ( Eu preciso saber ONDE ele mora . )

He wants to know HOW you are ( Ele quer saber COMO você está. )

She’d like to know WHY you missed her last class ( Ela gostaria de saber POR QUE você faltou a aula passada . )

I don’t know WHO he is. (Eu não sei QUEM é ele . )

Mary has to check WHEN the flight arrives. )

I don’t know WHO you’re talking about . )

I don’t know WHAT you’re talking about. )

Well, Hope it’s easier now! Thank you, guys, take care!

Passive voice - 9º ano

Aproveitem bem e tragam as suas dúvidas!

Modal Verbs - 8º ano

Have to X Must

MUST

Ex:
You must do your homework - Você deve fazer a sua lição de casa
I must go now - Devo ir agora
You must see that movie! - You deve assistir aquele filme

HAVE TO

Ex:
You have to fix your car to drive again.

SHOULD

"Should" é usado para para dar um aviso, não uma obrigação, de preferência uma recomendação

Ex:
You should try to cut down on smoking. Você deveria tentar diminuir o fumo.

Todo modal possui a seguinte estrutura:

Modal + infinitivo = Afirmativa
modal + Not + infinitivo = Negativa
Modal + sujeito + infinitivo = Interrogativa.

Auxiliar - HAD
Verbo principal - Sempre conjugado no particípio passado.

Afirmativas - SUJEITO + HAD + PARTICÍPIO + COMPLEMENTO.

REGULARES:

I HAD LISTENED TO MADONNA
YOU HAD WATCHED PLANET OF APES
HE HAD WASHED THE FERRARI
SHE HAD KISSED A BOY
IT HAD OPENED THE WINDOW
WE HAD COOKED FOR OUR PARENTS
YOU HAD PLAYED ALL THE CARDS
THEY HAD FISHED SHARKS

IRREGULARES.

I HAD GONE TO ROME
YOU HAD SEEN ME
HE HAD COME HOME
SHE HAD CUT TOMATOES
IT HAD DRIVEN ME CRAZY
WE HAD EATEN ROTTEN FOOD
YOU HAD DRUNK TOO MUCH
THEY HAD FLOWN TO DISTANT PLACES

NEGATIVA:  SUJEITO + HAD NOT OU HADN'T + PARTICÍPIO + COMPLEMENTO.
JOÃO ANTÔNIO HADN'T DONE THE LESSON

INTERROGATIVA:
CASO SIMPLES - HAD + SUJEITO + PARTICÍPIO + COMPLEMENTO?
CASO COMPLEXO - INTERROGATIVOS + HAD + SUJEITO + PARTICÍPIO + COMPLEMENTO?

Complicou? Então vamos descomplicar:

No caso simples faremos da seguinte forma:

PERGUNTA:    HAD CRISTIANO TAUGHT YOU THE PAST PERFECT? CRISTIANO TE ENSINOU O PASSADO PERFEITO?

RESPOSTA:    AFIRMATIVA CURTA = YES, HE HAD
AFIRMATIVA LONGA = YES, HE HAD TAUGHT US THE PAST PERFECT.
NEGATIVA CURTA = NO, HE HADN'T.
NEGATIVA LONGA = NO, HE HADN'T TAUGHT US THE PAST PERFECT.
NEGATIVA LONGA COM JUSTIFICATIVA: NO, HE HADN'T. HE HAD TAUGHT US THE NORTH AMERICAN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM

O QUE SÃO INTERROGATIVOS TEACHER?

AH, VOU ESCLARECER AGORA ESTA TUA DÚVIDA!

Lembra?

WHAT - QUE OU QUAL
WHERE - ONDE
WHEN - QUANDO
WHY - POR QUÊ
WHO - QUEM
HOW - COMO
WHICH - QUAL
HOW MUCH - QUANTO
HOW MANY - QUANTOS

Vamos ver as perguntas complexas!

PERGUNTA:  WHAT HAD TEACHER CAROL WATCHED?

RESPOSTA:   CAROL HADN'T WATCHED ANYTHING. CAROL NÃO ASSISTIU NADA.
SHE HAD WATCHED A ROMANTIC MOVIE WITH HER HUSBAND. ELA ASSISTIU UM FILME ROMÂNTICO COM O MARIDO DELA.
                       CAROL HAD WATCHED BREAKING DAWN

Viu! Temos a liberdade de resposta.

Ficamos por aqui hoje, see you later folks!!!!

LOSING MY RELIGION - REM

Oh, Life is bigger
It's bigger than you
and you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up

That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no, I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

Every whisper
Of every waking hour I'm
Choosing my confessions
Trying to keep eye on you
Like a hurt lost and blinded fool (fool!)
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up

Consider this (2x)
The hint of the century
Consider this
The slip that brought me
To my knees failed
What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around
Now I've said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
That was just a dream

That's me in the corner
That's me in the spot light
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no, I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream (try... cry... why... try)
That was just a dream, just a dream, just a dream, dream...

IN THE END - LINKING PARK

It starts with
One thing, I don't know why
It doesn't even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind
I designed this rhyme to explain in due time
All I know
Time is a valuable thing
Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings
Watch it count down to the end of the day
The clock ticks life away
It's so unreal
Didn't look out below
Watch the time go right out the window
Trying to hold on, but didn't even know
I wasted it all
just to watch you go
I kept everything inside
And even though I tried
It all fell apart
What it meant to me will eventually be a
memory of a time when

I tried so hard and got so far
But in the end, it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But in the end it doesn't even matter

One thing, I don't know why
It doesn't even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind i designed this rhyme to remind myself how
I tried so hard
In spite of the way you were mocking me
Acting like I was part of your property
Remembering all the times you fought with me
I'm surprised it got so [far]
Things aren't the way they were before
You wouldn't even recognize me anymore
Not that you knew me back then
But it all comes back to me [in the end]
I kept everything inside
And even though I tried
It all fell apart
What it meant to me will eventually be a
memory of a time when

I tried so hard and got so far
But in the end, it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But in the end it doesn't even matter

I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
for all this
There's only one thing you should know

I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
for all this
There's only one thing you should know

I tried so hard and got so far
But in the end, it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But in the end it doesn't even matter

ALLANIS MORRISSET - IRONIC

An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery and died the next day
It's a black fly in your Chardonnay
It's a death row pardon two minutes too late
Isn't it ironic... don't you think?

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Mr. Play it Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids good-bye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
"Well, isn't this nice."
And isn't it ironic ... don't you think?

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Well life has a funny way
of sneaking up on you when you think everything's okay and everything's going right
And life has a funny way
of helping you out when you think everything's gone wrong and everthing blows up in your face

A traffic jam when you're already late
A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
It's like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife
It's meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife
And isn't it ironic... don't you think
A little too ironic.. and yeah I really do think...

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
And life has a funny, funny way of helping you out
Helping you out

PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME - PINK

Da da da da, da da da da
Da da da da-da da

I don't know if I could yell any louder
How many times have I kicked you outta here?
Or said something insulting?
da da da da-da
I can be so mean when I wanna be
I am capable of really anything
I can cut you in two pieces
When my heart is....broken

Da da da-da da
Please don't leave me
Please don't leave me
I always say how I don't need you
But it's always gonna come right back to this
Please, don't leave me

How did I become so obnoxious?
What is it with you that makes me act like this?
I've never been this nasty
Can't you tell that this is all just a contest?
The one that wins will be the one that hits the hardest
But baby I don't mean it
I mean it, I promise

Da da da-da da
Please don't leave me
Da da da-da da
Please don't leave me
Da da da-da da
I always say how I don't need you
But it's always gonna come right back to this
Please, don't leave me

I forgot to say out loud
how beautiful you really are to me
I can't be without,
you're my perfect little punching bag
And I need you, I'm sorry.

Da da da da, da da da da
da da da da-da da
Please, please don't leave me

Baby please don't leave me
No, don't leave me
Please don't leave me no no no
I always say I don't need you but it's always gonna come
right back,
It's gonna come right back to this.
Please, don't leave me.
No.
No, don't leave me
Please don't leave me, oh no no no.
I always say how I don't need you
But it's always gonna come right back to this

Please don't leave me
Please don't leave me

DON'T STOP BELIEVING - JOURNEY

Just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train going anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train going anywhere

A singer in a smoky room
The smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

(Chorus)
Strangers waiting
looking down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Playin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time

Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

(Chorus)

Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlight people

 NUMB - LINKING PARK

I'm tired of being what you want me to be
Feeling so faithless, lost under the surface
I don't know what you're expecting of me
Put under the pressure
Of walking in your shoes
(Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow)
Every step that I take is another mistake to you
(Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow)

[Refrão]
I've become so numb
I can't feel you there
Become so tired
So much more aware
I'm becoming this
All I want to do
Is be more like me
And be less like you

Can't you see that you're smothering me
Holding too tightly
Afraid to lose control
'Cause everything that you thought I would be
Has fallen apart right in front of you
(Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow)
Every step that I take is another mistake to you
(Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow)
And every second I waste is more than I can take

[Refrão]
I've become so numb
I can't feel you there
Become so tired
So much more aware
I'm becoming this
All I want to do
Is be more like me
And be less like you

And I know
I may end up failing too
But I know
You were just like me
With someone disappointed in you

I've become so numb
I can't feel you there
I'm Become so tired
So much more aware
I'm becoming this
All I want to do
Is be more like me
And be less like you
I've become so numb I can't feel you there
(I'm tired of being what you want me to be)
I've become so numb I can't feel you there
(I'm tired of being what you want me to be)

SEMANA III - 8º ANOS A E B

TORN - NATALIE IMBRUGLIA

I thought I saw a man brought to life
He was warm he came around like he was dignified
He showed me what it was to cry

Well you couldn't be that man I adored
You don't seem to know-or seem to care
what your heart is for
But I don't know him anymore

There's nothin' where he used to lie
My conversation has run dry
That's what's goin' on

Nothing's fine
I'm torn
I'm all out of faith, this is how I feel
I'm cold and I'm ashamed
Lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed
Into something real
I'm wide awake and I can see
the perfect sky is torn
You're a little late
I'm already torn

So I guess the fortune teller's right
I should have seen just what was there and not
some Holy light

But you crawled beneath my veins and
now I don't care,
I have no luck
I don't miss it all that much
There's just so many things

That I can't touch
I'm torn
I'm all out of faith
This is how I feel
I'm cold and I'm ashamed
Lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed
Into something real
I'm wide awake and I can see
The perfect sky is torn
You're a little late
I'm already torn
Torn

Ohh, ooh...

There's nothing where he used to lie
My inspiration has run dry
That's what's goin' on

Nothing's right I'm torn
I'm all out of faith
This is how I feel
I'm cold and I'm ashamed
Lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed
Into something real
I'm wide awake and I can see
The perfect sky is torn
I'm all out of faith
This is how I feel
I'm cold and I'm ashamed
Bound and broken on the floor
You're a little late I'm already torn
Torn

Oh,
Oh

AS LONG AS YOU LOVE ME - JUSTIN BIEBER

As long as you love me
As long as you love me
As long as you love me

We're under pressure
Seven billion people in the world
Trying to fit in
Keep it together
Smile on your face
Even though your heart is frowning

But hey now,
You know girl
We both know it's a cruel world
But I will take my chances

As long as you love me
We could be starving
We could be homeless
We could be broke

As long as you love me
I'll be your platinum
I'll be your silver
I'll be your gold

As long as you love, love me, love me
As long as you love, love me, love me

I'll be your soldier
Fighting every second of the day
For your dreams, girl
I'll be your H.O.V.A.
You can be my Destiny's Child on scene, girl
So don't stress
Don't cry
We don't need no wings to fly
Just take my hand

As long as you love me
We could be starving
We could be homeless
We could be broke

As long as you love me
I'll be your platinum
I'll be your silver
I'll be your gold

As long as you love, love me, love me
As long as you love, love me, love me

[Big Sean]

I don't know if this makes sense but, you're my hallelujah
Give me a time and place, I'll rendezvous it
I'll fly you to it, I'll beat you there
Girl, you know I got you
Us, trust, a couple things I can't spell without U
Now we on top of the world, cause that's just how we do
Used to tell me sky's the limit,
Now the sky's our point of view
Man, we stepping out like woa (Oh God!),
Cameras point and shoot
Ask me 'what's my best side?',
I stand back and point at you
You the one that I argue with,
Feel like I need a new girl to be bothered with
But, the grass ain't always greener on the other side,
It's green where you water it
So I know, we got issues baby, true, true, true
But I'd rather work on this with you
Than to go ahead and start with someone new

As long as you love me
We could be starving
We could be homeless
We could be broke

As long as you love me
I'll be your platinum
I'll be your silver
I'll be your gold

As long as you love, love me, love me
As long as you love, love me, love me
As long as you love, love me, love me
As long as you love, love me, love me
As long as you love me

ACHEI ESTA MÚSICA A CARA DE VOCÊS.

WHO YOU ARE - JESSEY J

I stare at my reflection in the mirror
Why am I doing this to myself
Losing my mind on a tiny error
I nearly left the real me on the shelf
No, no, no, no

Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard
to follow your heart
But tears don't mean you're losing
everybody's bruising
Just be true to who you are

(Who you are, who you are, who you are x4)

Brushing my hair, do I look perfect?
I forgot what to do to fit the mold
The more I try, the less it's working
Cause everything inside me screams: no, no, no, no, no, no, no

Don't lose who you are in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard to follow your heart
But tears don't mean you're losing
everybody's bruising
There's nothing wrong with who you are

Yes, Nos, egos
fake shows like WOO
Just go, and leave me alone
Real talk, real life, good luck, good night
With a smile...
That's my home, yeah
That is my home...

(Bridge)

No, no, no, no, no...
Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard to follow your heart
But tears don't mean you're losing
everybody's bruising
Just be true to who you are

Yeah, Yeah..

WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD - LOUIS ARMSTRONG

I see trees of green, red roses too.
I see them bloom for me and you.
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue and clouds of white,
The bright blessed day, The dark sacred night.
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

The colours of the rainbow so pretty in the sky.
Are also on the faces of people going by.
I see friends shaking hands, saying: "How do you do?"
They're really saying:"I love you".

I hear babies cry, I watch them grow,
They'll learn much more, than I'll never know.
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

Yes, I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

LOVE THE WAY YOU LIE

Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
That's alright because I like the way it hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
That's alright because I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

(Eminem)

I can't tell you what it really is
I can only tell you what it feels like
And right now it's a steel knife in my windpipe
I can't breathe but I still fight while I can fight
As long as the wrong feels right it's like I'm in
flight
I offer love drunk from my hate
It's like I'm huffing paint and I love it the more I
suffer
I suffocate
And right before I'm about to drown she
resuscitates me
She fucking hates me and I love it
Wait
Where you going
I'm leaving you
No you ain't
Come back
We're running right back
Here we go again it's so insane
Cause when it's going good it's going great
I'm Superman with the wind in his back
She's Lois Lane
But when it's bad it's awful
I feel so ashamed
I snap
Who's that dude?
I don't even know his name
I laid hands on him
I'll never stoop so low again
I guess I don't know my own strength

(Rihanna)

Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
That's alright because I like the way it hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
that's alright because I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

(Eminem)

You ever love somebody so much
You can barely breathe
When you're with them
You meet
And neither one of you
Even know what hit them
Got that warm fuzzy feeling
Yeah them chills
Used to get them
Now you're getting fucking sick
Of looking at them
You swore you've never hit them
Never do nothing to hurt them
Now you're in each other's face
Spewing venom
And these words
When you spit them
You push
Pull each other's hair
Scratch, claw, pit them
Throw them down
Pin them
So lost in the moments
When you're in them
It's the craze that the corporate
Controls you both
So they say it's best
To go your separate ways
Guess that they don't know you
Cause today
That was yesterday
Yesterday is over
It's a different day
Sound like broken records
Playing over
But you promised her
Next time you'll show restraint
You don't get another chance
Life is no Nintendo game
But you lied again
Now you get to watch her leave
Out the window
Guess that's why they call it windowpane

(Rihanna)

Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
That's alright because I like the way it hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
that's alright because I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

(Eminem)

Now I know we said things
Did things
That we didn't mean
And we fall back
Into the same patterns
Same routine
But your temper's just as bad
As mine is
You're the same as me
But when it comes to love
You're just as blinded
Baby please come back
It wasn't you
Baby it was me
Maybe our relationship
Isn't as crazy as it seems
Maybe that's what happens
When a tornado meets a volcano
All I know is
I love you too much
To walk away now
Come inside
Pick up your bags off the sidewalk
Don't you hear sincerity
In my voice when I talk
Told you this is my fault
Look me in the eyeball
Next time I'm pissed
I'll aim my fist
At the dry wall
Next time
There will be no next time
I apologize
Even though I know it's lies
I'm tired of the games
I just want her back
I know I'm a liar
If she ever tries to fucking leave again
I'mma tie her to the bed
And set this house on fire
Just gonna

(Rihanna)

Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
That's alright because I like the way it hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
that's alright because I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

WIND OF CHANGE - SCORPIONS

I follow the Moskva
Down to Gorky Park
Listening to the wind of change
An August summer night
Soldiers passing by
Listening to the wind of change

The world is closing in
Did you ever think
That we could be so close, like brothers
The future's in the air
I can feel it everywhere
Blowing with the wind of change

[Chorus:]
Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away
In the wind of change

Walking down the street
Distant memories
Are buried in the past forever

I follow the Moskva
Down to Gorky Park
Listening to the wind of change

Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away
In the wind of change

The wind of change blows straight
Into the face of time
Like a stormwind that will ring
The freedom bell for peace of mind
Let your balalaika sing
What my guitar wants to say

Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away
In the wind of change

Where Is the Love?

The song was written by will.i.am, Taboo, apl.de.ap, Ron Fair, P. Board, G. Pajon Jr, M. Fratantuno, and J. Curtis, and co-produced by will.i.am and Ron Fair. In this song, The Black Eyed Peas lament on various worldwide problems. Many issues are discussed, which include but are not limited to terrorism, U.S. government hypocrisy, racism, pollution, war, intolerance, and greed.

CALIFORNICATION - RED HOT CHILLY PEPPERS

The song is mainly about the dark side of Hollywood and the export of culture through the movie industry. The song begins "Psychic spies from China try to steal your mind's elation." Kiedis says in his book Scar Tissue that he got the inspiration for the lyric from when he was in New Zealand and he heard a woman on the street ranting about there being psychic spies in China. The track also makes references to topics such as pornography ("hardcore soft porn") and plastic surgery ("pay your surgeon very well to break the spell of aging") and even some pop culture references including Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain and David Bowie ("Cobain, can you hear the spheres singing songs off Station to Station?"), Star Wars ("and Alderaan's not far away"), and Star Trek ("Space may be the final frontier but it's made in a Hollywood basement"). This quote can also be interpreted to be about the conspiracy that Neil Armstrong's original landing on the moon was indeed staged. "First born Unicorn/hard core-soft porn" refers to the late Dorothy Stratten. She was first born, and was written about in the novel "The Killing of the Unicorn".
 IMAGINE - JOHN LENNON

"Imagine" is a song written and performed by the English musician John Lennon. The best-selling single of his solo career, its lyrics encourage the listener to imagine a world at peace, without the divisiveness and barriers of borders, religions and nationalities, and to consider the possibility that the focus of humanity should be living a life unattached to material possessions.
Lennon and Yoko Ono co-produced the song and album of the same name with Phil Spector. Recording began at Lennon's home studio at Tittenhurst Park, England, in May 1971, with final overdubs taking place at the Record Plant, in New York City, during July. One month after the September release of the LP, Lennon released "Imagine" as a single in the United States; the song peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the LP reached number one on the UK chart in November, later becoming the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed album of Lennon's solo career. Although not originally released as a single in the United Kingdom, it was released in 1975 to promote a compilation LP and it reached number six in the chart that year. The song has since sold more than 1.6 million copies in the UK; it reached number one following Lennon's death in December 1980.
BMI named "Imagine" one of the 100 most-performed songs of the 20th century. The song ranked number 30 on the Recording Industry Association of America's list of the 365 Songs of the Century bearing the most historical significance. It earned a Grammy Hall of Fame Award and an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. A UK survey conducted by the Guinness World Records British Hit Singles Book named it the second best single of all time, and Rolling Stone ranked it number 3 in their list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". Since 2005, event organisers have played it just before the New Year's Times Square Ball drops in New York City. Dozens of artists have performed or recorded versions of "Imagine", including Madonna, Stevie Wonder, Joan Baez, Elton John, and Diana Ross. Emeli Sandé recorded a cover for the BBC to use during the end credits montage at the close of the 2012 Summer Olympics coverage in August 2012. "Imagine" subsequently re-entered the UK Top 40, reaching number 18.
